Tue 27th Oct 2015 - Deltic Group boss joins ALMR board
Deltic Group boss joins ALMR board: The Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers (ALMR) has cemented its status as the UK’s preeminent representative for the late-night sector with the unveiling of a new board appointment reflecting its continued commitment to the sector. Speaking at the sector’s first late-night conference, ALMR chief executive Kate Nicholls announced Deltic Group chief executive Peter Marks, who has over 30 years experience in the late-night sector, will take up a position on the board. Nicholls said: “This appointment underlines the ALMR’s commitment to the UK’s night-time economy and to late-night venues. We have been a vocal champion of nightclubs and had led the fight against Early Morning Restriction Orders and late-night levies. We are looking forward to working with Peter to push for a fairer, flexible deal for late-night venues.” Marks said: “The ALMR is the most relevant trade body in promoting the late-night sector alongside pubs and casual dining and I’m delighted to join the board. Professionally run clubs and bars are the anchor of vibrant town and city centre economies, creating much needed investment and employment for young people; a message that we need to get across more effectively to politicians, police and local councils. Sadly, the sector faces a number of threats. As the largest venue in town and often the last stop on a night out, clubs are often easy targets for well-meaning but inappropriate licensing conditions. And, with councils under increasing pressure to create more housing by converting office blocks and retail outlets to residential use, late-night venues across the country are at risk from a growing number of noise complaints. We have to address these challenges head on, and I look forward to working with my ALMR colleagues to promote the positive benefits that the late-night sector brings to the UK economy.” The ALMR has continued to strengthen its reputation as the UK’s foremost representative of the late-night sector with the acquisition of a number of late-night retailers into membership: Barrio Bars, Steam & Rye, Coronet Theatre, Adventure Bars, Star Oyster, Rift & Co and Inception Group. New board appointments in respect of pubs and casual dining will be announced shortly.
